Candy McClelland, 200 RYT
Candy was born in Lincoln, Nebraska and moved to Kansas City when she was 4 months old. She grew up in Leawood, Kansas. Sports and fitness have been a part of Candy’s life since she was 4 years old when she learned to swim. She swam and dove until she graduated from college and started work at Hallmark Cards. Then she became a runner and group fitness instructor, lifting weights and started a personal training business on the side. After two knee surgeries and rotator cuff surgery she went to a yoga class. She learned how yoga addressed the whole person physically, mentally, spiritually, socially and emotionally. Candy fell in love with yoga, wanted to learn more and how to share this passion with others.
Candy completed her first RYT 200 hour training in March 2009 with YogaFit and is Yoga Alliance registered. She completed the Baptiste Power Yoga Institute’s Art of Assisting in September 2013. She is in the process of finishing the Sid Yoga RYT 200 hour program. Candy is passionate about life. Yoga is a way of life. Candy loves people and loves to hear and share life stories with them on and off the mat. Candy believes being a yoga teacher is about empowering others to let go of their judgments, expectations and distractions and to be present, open up their heart, go inward and focus their awareness on what’s possible. Candy loves to push people out of their comfort zone, give them the space, encouragement and energy to see what they are truly capable of. She inspires people to erase their fear and light-up when they do their first downward dog, make their first crow, go from crow to headstand or their first inversion. Candy is known for her challenging yet fun core strengthening work during class; whether it is at the beginning of class, taking a break during the power series or splashing in a boat pose during the core series. You will leave her class feeling inspired, challenged, stronger and part of a growing family and community.
Candy’s greatest inspiration through out her life has been John, her husband. He is calm, kind, brilliant, dedicated, honest, funny, unique, confident, hardworking and an easy person to live with. He loves our family dearly and is the glue that holds our family together including our extended families. He never complains. He is extremely giving and doesn’t expect anything in return. He can fix anything. He has raised quarter horses, raced Porsche Carrera’s, flown small planes, sailed an America’s Cup sailboat, played the trumpet and is an amazing chef. She couldn’t get through life without his unconditional love, encouragement and support in everything she venture’s out to do and especially his support the last 6 years in helping her take care of her mom. She thank’s God daily for blessing her with such an amazing beautiful man inside and out.
Candy teaches yoga in the mornings Monday through Friday. She teaches at New Day Yoga – Yoga Pump, Core Energy Hot Yoga and HealthRidge Fitness Center – Fitness Pilates, Power Vinyasa and Yoga Pump. Candy teaches yoga to her personal training clients and at her boot camps in the park in the Fall and Spring. She volunteers her chair yoga classes at Brookdale Place and Park Manor, two senior living communities.
Candy enjoys traveling, sailing, reading, cooking, spending time with her family and friends at the lake and hanging out with her two retrivers on the dock. “Happiness is when what you think, what you say and what you do are in harmony” – Gandhi.
